Parent Tip of the Month: Food

August 15, 2011

Is your child a picky eater? Try to figure out what the cause of the pickiness is. Is it texture? Taste? Aversion to new things? After you figure that out, try new foods that closely match foods your child likes. For example, if Johnny only wants to eat pizza because of taste, try adding tomato sauce and cheese to a new food (maybe a tortilla or a cracker). If Johnny only likes applesauce because of texture then try blending other foods like pears or berries. You can also try using an electric toothbrush before meals to make his mouth less sensitive. Gradually remove the “similar” feature until your child is eating the new food all by itself.
