The Importance of Community Outings

July 14, 2017

Vital to the success of mastering new skills is the client’s ability to expand and generalize the skills they’ve learned in various settings and with multiple people. Community outings are a great opportunity for individuals to practice skills they have learned. Once a skill is taught at home or another location, we then venture out to the community to teach or work on the same skill in a different location.

There are many skills that go beyond home performance. Some of those skills could include: waiting in line, labeling different items in a store, safety skills, communication and socialization skills just to name a few.

Finally, going out in the community is a great way for individuals to socialize, meet and play with new friends.
